First Lady Janice S. Godwin Wilson was born on January 6, 1957 in Jakin, Georgia, to the late Mr. Clifton Godwin Sr. and Mrs. Jeannett W. Godwin. After a short illness, she transitioned to her Heavenly Home on Sunday, September 23, 2018, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama.
First Lady Wilson received her education through the Early County School System, graduating in 1975 from Early County High School.
She accepted JESUS as her LORD AND SAVIOR and became a member of Mount Pisgah African Methodist Episcopal Church in Jakin, Georgia. She later became a member of Second United Holiness Church in Donalsonville, Georgia, and finally Fifth United Holiness Church in Chipley, Florida, where she served as Church Secretary and Praise and Worship Leader. First Lady Wilson enjoyed meeting people and telling them about the GOD whom she served. In her leisure time, she had a passion for completing Sudoku puzzles.
In 1980 she was united in Holy Matrimony to Elder Billy Wilson. To this union was born one son, Gabriel Clifton Wilson.
She leaves to cherish fond memories her loving and devoted husband, Elder Billy E. Wilson of Donalsonville, GA; son, Gabriel C. Wilson of Donalsonville; caring mother, Mrs. Jeannett Godwin of Jakin, GA; mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Wilson of Donalsonville; four sisters: Betty Taylor of Albany, GA, Elza Ree Jones (McKenzie) of Donalsonville, Veronica Forbes (Rev. Otis) of Jakin, and Angela Godwin of Stockbridge, GA; three brothers: Clifton Godwin Jr., Michael Godwin, and Venson Godwin (T. Marie), all of Jakin; sisters-in-law: Evelyn Leggett, Pearlie Henry, Mary "Rosa" Wallace, Joyce Ann Miller (Walter), Patricia Wilson, Dorothy A. Wilson, Lawanda Carrol (Edgar), Annie Whigans, Debra Whigans, and Jacqueline Ford (Dennis); brothers-in-law: George Wilson (Debra), LouGene Wilson (Tina), Jerry Wilson, Charles Wilson , and Jimmy Wilson (Amy); aunts and uncles: Dottie Robinson (Robert), Alean McDonald, Dianne Howard (Edward), Helen Jefferson (Jeremiah), Laura Duncan, George Barnhill (Debra), and Freddie Barnhill; two very special friends, Harritt Fennell and Christine Henry; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ralph Leggett.
