Annie Pearl George was born December 20, 1949 to the late Lucille Wright Ray. Early in life, realizing that worldly knowledge was not the only knowledge needed, she accepted JESUS CHRIST as her LORD AND SAVIOR. She loved THE LORD with all her heart and worked diligently to live her life according to HIS Word. Annie was an active member of Newberry African Methodist Episcopal Church in Donalsonville, Georgia, where she was a dedicated usher, assisted with communion, and was a caretaker for the Church. She also was a devoted lead singer of the Echols Sisters. If the group was not singing the song right, she would be like "wait a minute we got to start back over and get this song right".
Annie received her high school diploma from Washington High School in Blakely, Georgia. She was a standout star athlete in track and basketball for the Washington High Bears.
Annie was employed by Donnie Mills Sewing Factory for 25 years. She made a great impact on many lives that she came in contact with and was loved and cherished by many.
Annie was a devoted wife and mother, faithful sister and a thoughtful and kind friend. More than anything, her family was important to her. In 1967 Annie met her life partner who she affectionately called "George Boy". From this union were born four children who were near and dear to her heart.
A fighter, yes–"fighter" is a word that we can strongly say about her. She amazed so many people and doctors by her progress several times when they said she would not make it this long. Through it all, even though her body got tired at times and life’s challenges made it difficult some days, Annie continued to fight. In spite of her illness, she did things that reassured loved ones that everything was in GOD’S Hands. She fought a good fight, and she finished her course.
On April 7, 2017 after years of battling many ailments, GOD whispered in Annie’s ear to tell her it was time; so THE LORD took her hand, and quietly she went Home to be with HIM. She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband, Otis George Jr.; two sons, Marcellus George (Paola) of Colorado Springs, CO and Benjamin George (Michelle) of Orlando, FL; two daughters, Odessa Mills (Keith) of Albuquerque, NM and Youlanda Smith of Virginia Beach, VA; sisters: Doris Coachman, Lucille Thornton, both of Blakely, GA, and Nervena Adams of Columbus, GA; brother, John E. Ray Jr. (Donnis) of Jakin, GA; sisters-in-law, Bertha James of Miami, FL and Thelma George of Rockledge, FL; brother-in-law, Dawud Abdullah of Atlanta, GA; dynamic godsisters: Barbara Purdy (Paul) of Wavey, FL, Jessie Belcher (Clarence), Alice Dupree (Joe), Catherine Register, Stella Rogers (Anthony), all of Donalsonville, GA, Viola Fedd (Leroy) of Buena Vista, GA, and Freedonia Ray of Port St. Joe, FL; godbrother, Jackie Hodge (Veronica) of Donalsonville, GA; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; and an abundance of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
