Betsy Hopson Life and Time

Mrs. Betsy Barnes Hopson was born June 9, 1921, in Jakin, Georgia, to Hardy Herman and Mandy Barnes.  She was the third of four siblings; all of whom preceded her in death.

She attended the public schools of Seminole County, Georgia.  At an early age, Betsy professed her faith in JESUS CHRIST and joined Newberry African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she was a dedicated member.

Betsy was united in Holy Matrimony on September 29, 1938, to Johnny Hopson Sr.  This union was blessed with eight children with two preceding her in death.  Her husband Johnny Sr. preceded her in death on March 27, 2018.

Mrs. Betsy Hopson had such a beautiful spirit and loving ways; and as a result of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, she was loved by many.  Her life was as beautiful as the flowers that she loved so well, and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.  She quietly departed this life Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at her home in Donalsonville, Georgia.  She was preceded in death by her two sons Willie C. Hopson and Terry Hopson, grandson Gary Bell, brother Hardy Barnes, and two sisters Annie Mae Edwards and Ola Mae Edwards.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children:  her loyal and faithful daughter Betty Hopson-Bell and sons Willie C. Hopson (Ruenett), Herman Hopson (Peggy), Bobby Hopson (Emily), Curtis C. Hopson (Peggy), all of Rochester, NY, Douglas Hopson (Marie) of Atlanta, GA, and Johnny Hopson Jr., of Donalsonville, GA; a special grandson, Willie James Hopson of Rochester, NY; seventeen additional grandchildren; two special sisters-in-law, Queen Esther Bell of Tampa, FL, and Loraine Hopson of Donalsonville, GA; two very special nieces, Annie Pearl Wimberly of Tampa, FL, and Ester Groomes of Donalsonville, GA; and a host of family and friends from many different walks of life.

To know Betsy was to truly love her, because she had a contagious spirit of love and generosity.  Laughter was always her neighbor, and joy sat often as her friend.  99 Years of curiosity, adventures, joy and tears have all been wrapped up in this “Beautiful Celebration of Life”.
