Charlie Orange

May 11, 1944 ~ May 12, 2017 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Charlie Lester Orange was born May 11, 1944 in Jakin, Georgia to the late Zack and Mary Virgin Orange. He "finished his course" on Friday, May 12, 2017, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center, Dothan, Alabama at 1:40 p.m.

Charlie was united in Holy Matrimony to Betty Williams on March 16, 1974. Their lives were blessed with two loving daughters, Lynn Orange Jones and Jennifer Godwin.

After graduating from Seminole County Training School, Charlie farmed with his dad. On March 27, 1969, he was inducted into the United States Army, serving a tour of duty in Vietnam. He received an Honorable Discharge on October 30, 1970, with a SP5 rank. He returned home to Donalsonville to continue farming, from which he retired in 2009.

Charlie Orange gave his life to CHRIST and joined Newberry African Methodist Episcopal Church, where he actively served as Church Steward and Class Leader. Many will remember him by his singing of hymns and prayers of praise.

"Uncle Charlie", as he was affectionately called by his godchildren and numerous others, mentored many through his wisdom and words of encouragement.

Charlie’s favorite hobby of leisure was fishing. He cherished spending countless hours with his numerous fishing buddies, reminiscing about the past, and seeing who could catch the most fish.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Lucindie Orange, and one brother, Paul Lane.

As he was joyfully welcomed by those who had gathered before him, Charlie left to cherish fond memories his loving wife, Betty W. Orange; two daughters, Lynn Jones (Wayne) of Buford, Georgia and Jennifer Godwin of Stockbridge, Georgia; grandchildren: Britley Jones and Jordan Jones; sisters: Elizabeth Henry (Neville Sr.) of South Bay, Florida, Bernice Benton (Harry) of Donalsonville, Georgia, and Annie Nesby of Newark, New Jersey; sister-in-law, Bernice Lane; nieces: Geneen Robinson, Carolyn Powell (Willie), Sharon Gooden (Alfonso), Charmaine Henry, Georgette Benton, and Lexus Benton; nephews: Winston Henry, Neville Henry, Curtis Orange, and Walter Weston; great nieces, Paulette Baskerville and Deidre Powell; great nephews: Lukie Pusey, Aaron Baskerville, and Deonte Powell; special family members/friends: Clem Copeland Jr., Sammy Orange, Lester Walker Jr., Joe Fedd, S.
