Eugene Barber Jr. was born on May 19, 1952, in Seminole County, Georgia. Eugene was the second of nine children born to Eugene Barber Sr. and Doshie Mae Brewer Barber.
He attended Bethel Elementary and High School in Colquitt, Georgia, graduating with honors. He continued his education at Fort Valley State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Science, Class of 1974. He joined and trained in the United States Army as a reservist after college. He further pursued higher education and completed a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Science at the University of Missouri. Eugene enjoyed a long working career (42 years) from 1975 until he retired in 2017 as a Soil Conservationist, USDA-NRSC, working here in the State of Georgia. During his working career, he was privileged to assist many farmers in several South Georgia counties to improve their farming productivity.
Eugene married Joann Harris in 1975. To this union was born one son, Eugene Barber III. Eugene was also the father of Zacchaeus Zulu Harris-Barber, LaDoshie Barber, Demell Scotty Barber and Alexander Barber.
Since his retirement in 2017, Eugene has enjoyed spending his time living in Albany, Georgia, with his family. He departed this life suddenly on Friday, October 15, 2021, at Phoebe Putney Hospital in Albany. He was preceded in death by his father Eugene Barber Sr. and sister Julia Barber Durr.
His posterity lives on through his children: Eugene Barber III of Atlanta, GA, Zacchaeus Zulu Harris-Barber of Mobile, AL, LaDoshie Barber, Demell Scotty Barber, Alexander Barber, all of Albany, GA, Elycia Kaleen Barber of Mt. Joy, PA, Kemiyah Barber, and Kaloni Barber, both of Albany, GA. His surviving family tree includes his loving mother, Doshie Brewer Barber Fennell of Iron City, GA; siblings: Myrtice Barber Atrice (Walker) of Fayetteville, GA, Cleve Barber (Cynthia) of Houston, TX, Ricky Allen Barber (Harriett) of Bainbridge, GA, Tony Dale Barber, Scotty Lee Barber, both of Iron City, GA, Pamela Nancy Barber-Smith of Peterman, AL, and Paula Nancy Barber of Alpharetta, GA; and one aunt, Dorothy Brewer Wims of Philadelphia, PA. He also leaves behind a long list of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and past work associates.
