Fredena Wooten was born April 28, 1922, to the late Annie Wooten (Donalsonville, GA - Decatur County), and parented by the late James Henry and Lula Barber Wooten (Donalsonville, GA). she gave birth to James Wesley Wooten in 1940 who preceded her in death.
In1941 she was joined in holy matrimony to Iverson (Ivory) Saffold (Donalsonville, GA) to this union, one daughter was born, Geraldine Saffold.
Fredena attended Seminole County Training School followed by her attendance to Georgia Normal (Albany State). She was raised in Live Oak AME Church, and served for several decades as church secretary, member of the trustee board, alto in the adult choir, and a member of the women's missionary society. She enjoyed reading dictionaries, completing crossword puzzles, and cooking. Because of her kindness, wisdom, and generosity, she was considered a mother by many; never too busy to lend a helping hand or give advice. Fredena was a diligent and faithful servant of god; always willing to support her family, church and community.
On the evening of Tuesday, July 20th, 2021, Fredena transitioned into eternal
rest at home surrounded by loved ones.
She was preceded in death by husband, Iverson Saffold; two brothers, Charlie Wooten (Tampa, FL) and Charlie Wooten (Donalsonville, GA); two sisters, Dorothy Williams (Rochester, NY) and Althea Wilburn (Atlanta, GA).
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving daughter, Geraldine Cochran (Donalsonville, GA), granddaughters, Melody and Melanie Cochran (Lithonia, GA), Sharon Collins (Tulsa, OK), Dena Wooten (Millbrook, AL), and Sharon Brannon (Oakland, CA); grandsons Dr. Michael D. Saffold, Sr. (pikesville, MD), Deandre Wooten (Tanya) (McDonough, GA), and James wyesley Wooten, Jr. (Portland Oregon); great-grandson, Michael D. Saffold, Jr. (Baltimore, MD); and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren
great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
