Johnny Hopson Sr.

On March 27, 2018, GOD sent HIS Angels of Mercy to bring Home HIS faithful servant Johnny Hopson Sr.

Mr. Johnny Hopson Sr. was born September 3, 1918, to Mr. George and Mrs. Arliva Hopson. He found CHRIST at the early age of fourteen and joined Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Miller County, Georgia. He met and married the love of his life, Betsy. To this union were born eight children; the youngest of whom, Terry Hopson, preceded him in death. Mr. Hopson was blessed with 99 GOOD long years of living (To GOD be the glory).

Mr. Hopson leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 79 years, Betsy Hopson; one devoted and dedicated daughter who cared for him until his death, Betty J. Bell; six sons: Willie C. Hopson (Rhunette), Curtis C. Hopson (Peggy), Bobby Hopson, Herman Hopson (Peggy), all of Rochester, New York, Johnny "Duke" Hopson Jr. of Donalsonville, Georgia, and Douglas Hopson (Marie) of Atlanta, Georgia; one special grandson whom he raised as his own, Willie J. Hopson; and a special granddaughter who idolized his every step, Africa T. Hopson. His grandson Gary Bell preceded him in death.

Mr. Johnny was the eldest of seven siblings; all but one, Queen Ester Bell, preceded him in death. Because of his good nature and kindness he showed to others, GOD saw fit to grant him longevity that allowed him to see the birth of twenty-two grandchildren, forty great grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren, creating five generations of love and legacy. Mr. Johnny had many nieces (one of whom who was special to him, Ester Groom), nephews, other family members and friends who loved and looked up to him. However GOD in HIS Infinite Wisdom looked down and saw that his body was frail and his soul was weary, so he called him Home. Our hearts are broken but full of gratefulness, for we know he lived a life worth celebrating. He will surely be missed, but we are grateful for the many years that GOD allowed him to be a part of our lives and we a part of his. We are truly blessed.
