Joseph “Neal” Freeman Sr. was born January 25, 1933, in Donalsonville, Georgia, to the late Walter Freeman and Louise Paramore Freeman. Joseph was a member of Holy Neck Missionary Baptist Church.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to Simmie Mae Bryant on June 20, 1953. This union produced seven children. Joseph remained a devoted husband for sixty-seven years.
Although Joseph was strong and fought a long battle, he peacefully departed his earthly life at home with his wife by his side on Wednesday, March 2, 2022. He was preceded in death by one son, Paul Freeman; one grandson who was very dear to his heart, Thomas U. Williams III; two sisters, Flossie Slaughter and Frances Polite; and six brothers: Rev. Paul Freeman, Walter Freeman Jr., Willie C. Freeman, Rev. Cornelius Freeman, Rev. Moses Freeman, and Henry Freeman.
Joseph leaves to cherish precious memories his wife, Simmie Mae Freeman of Donalsonville, GA; five daughters: Mary Lee Freeman, Bobbie Jean Freeman, Aretha Williams (Thomas II), Dianne Clark (Marcus), all of Donalsonville, and Jennifer Smith (Jessie) of Albany, GA; one son, Joseph Freeman Jr. (Mary Ann) of Donalsonville; twelve grandchildren: Zkyiah Moore, Jasiel Smith, Briona Smith, Lequanna Williams, Althea Williams, Shekeria Williams, Andrekies Williams (Nicole), Jania Freeman, Joseph Jawarre Freeman, Gabriel Freeman, Diyonna Stringer, and Tyron Blackmon; seventeen great grandchildren; two sisters, Daisy Tarver of Donalsonville, and Louise Pugh of Okeechobee, FL; one sister-in-law, Nettie Freeman of Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
