Lilla Jo Gray Jones was born on November 5, 1947, in Iron City, Georgia, to the parentage of Hettie Mae Batts and Rossi Gray. On Tuesday, March 2, 2021, surrounded by family, she answered the Call of her HEAVENLY FATHER to come Home and Rest from Labor.
“Lilla”, which means beautiful flower, was a lovely soul. She was affectionately known as “Jo” to those who knew her well. She treasured time spent with her family and friends.
At an early age, she joined Springhill Missionary Baptist Church in Iron City under the leadership of Reverend C. Bouie. Lilla attended the public schools of Seminole County, Georgia, graduating Seminole County Training School in the Class of 1965.
On March 28, 1977, she gave birth to twins, Michelle and Michael Gray. They were the joys of her life.
On October 7, 1995, she married her soulmate, Joe Nathan Jones.
Lilla was employed as a Behavioral Health Aide with the State of Georgia. After nearly thirty years of faithful service, she retired.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted husband, Joe Nathan Jones; two sons, Michael Durrell Gray and Joe Jones Jr. (Patricia); five daughters: Gloria Reynolds (Mark), Katie Pickren (Carlos), Quinilla Jones, Hattie Groomes (Stanley), and LaPorshia Jones (Arese); twenty-five grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, other family members and friends.
Lilla was preceded in death by her parents, Hettie Mae Williams and Rossi Gray; stepfather, Amos Williams; grandparents: Jim and Liller Batts and Raymond and Trudie Gray; her daughter, Michelle Lamanda Gray; three aunts: Rosa (R. D.) Ward, Elaine Baker, and Theresa Perry; and three uncles: Shelmon Batts, Ned Batts, and Isaac Batts.
