Martha G. Ferris was a woman of unwavering strength, determination, and kindheartedness. She was born on June 22,
1943, in Donalsonville, Georgia, to Rosa Lee Bethea Ingram Brown and Sam Ingram (deceased); her stepfather Heyward Brown helped in her rearing.
Martha dedicated her life to her family, her faith, and her community.
Martha’s commitment to helping others began at Albany State College, where she studied Nursing. Her professional journey took her through Donalsonville Hospital, Inc. and Bainbridge State Hospital before she eventually retired from the Plywood Mill in Cedar Springs, Georgia.
Martha’s spiritual journey was a cornerstone of her life. After giving her life to GOD, she served as a devoted Freewill Baptist member and later joined the congregation at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where she shared her love for THE LORD with all who knew her.
Married to her first husband, the late Willie Allen Groomes (d. 1963), and later to Winston A. Ferris in 1977, Martha built a large and vibrant family. She was a pillar of support for her children: LaGloria J. Timmons (3) of Tampa, FL, Samuel D. Groomes (8) of Bainbridge, GA, Rosa P. Jones (2), Sherry J. Barber (3) , both of Donalsonville, GA, Edward C. Groomes (5) of El Paso, TX, Randy S. Groomes (2) of Lawrenceville, GA, Melissa G. Morgan of Bainbridge, GA, Takeba R. Ferris-deceased (5), and Tayoka A. Ferris of Donalsonville, GA.
Martha’s legacy lives on through her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She will be remembered most for her zest for life and the boundless love she offered to everyone whom she met.
