Sister Virdell Flanders Cheatem was born in the Lela Community of Donalsonville, Georgia on December 9,1937 to the Late Willie and Sallie Merritt Flanders. She confessed THE LORD JESUS CHRIST as her SAVIOR at a young age and joined Oak City Missionary Baptist Church of Donalsonville.
After leaving school, she relocated to South Florida, where she lived and worked for many years. There Virdell met Willie Cheatem Jr. They were united in Holy Matrimony on January 16, 1959. GOD blessed their union with three children.
Later in life she relocated to Colquitt, Georgia. In Colquitt she united with Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, serving faithfully until her health declined.
Sister Virdell departed this early life on Saturday, July 16,2016 in Colquitt. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Katherine "Baby" Rambeau; one granddaughter, Deontea "Tina" Gosier; two brothers, Ocie Flanders and W.C. James; and three sisters: Mildred Flanders, Mary Daniels, and Willie Mae Flanders Halliburton.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving husband of 57 years, Deacon Willie "Buck" Cheatem Jr. of Colquitt, GA and LeShonda Guy (Larry) of Bainbridge, GA; one stepdaughter, Patricia Orange of Donalsonville, GA; nine grandchildren: Roderick Gosier, Regina Ling, JaWanti Rainey, Shamiya Rainey, Raphael Shepard, Larry Guy III, Deontae Guy, LeShonda Guy II, and John Cheatem Jr.; several great grandchildren; one brother Vincent Scott (Danielle) of Bainbridge, GA; one brother-in-law, Rev. Isaiah Cheatem of Iron City, GA; four sisters-in-law: Mary Russell (James), Idean Cheatem, both of Colquitt, GA, Sarah Cheatem Green of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Rev. Katherine Cheatem Johnseon of Hollywood, FL; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends.
